This piano guide aimed at helping beginners to learn to play piano chords is designed for those who do not have any musical training. If you know how to read music or have studied learning the piano then it is recommended you use the correct route for learning to play piano chords.

So... you want to learn to play piano chords?

It's one thing knowing how to pick out a basic tune on the piano, but if you want to learn how to play something that sounds a little bit better... you're going to want to know how to play the different chords.

This guide will not teach you any specific songs. It will simply teach you the main chords and the notes each is made up of.

Learning piano chords - what are they?

The first thing you'll want to know is where the note on the piano are. You can click the link above to learn.

A piano chord is a group of notes played either at the same time (a regular chord) or alternately (a broken chord). Any group of notes could be classed as a chord, but as you can probably guess some groups of piano notes don't sound too pleasing on the ears!

Chords are split into 2 main groups:

  1. Major chords - these are the chords that sound fairly light and happy
  2. Minor chords - these are the chords that sound fairly dark and unhappy


Learning the minor piano chords

I will now give you the notes you will need to play for each main note on the piano in order to make up the minor chord for that note.
